The crossing of the N3 highway and the R23 (Heidelberg/Balfour Road) is a primary transit artery for South Africa, but its high traffic volume and quick access to multiple escape routes make it a frequent target for criminal syndicates although they operate everywhere.

 

This area is particularly known for "Blue Light Gangs" - criminals who impersonate law enforcement to flag down motorists near off-ramps and toll plazas. To ensure your journey through the Lesedi district remains secure, please keep the following safety protocols in mind:

• Exercise Caution with Blue Lights: If a vehicle with flashing lights signals you to pull over in a secluded or dark area, do not stop immediately. Switch on your hazards to acknowledge them and drive directly to the Heidelberg SAPS Station at 4 Voortrekker Street, Heidelberg, 1441, South Africa or a highly visible, well-lit petrol station.
