The Heidelberg Heritage Association is an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history and heritage of Heidelberg. They act as a forum for participating organizations and individuals interested in heritage matters within and around Heidelberg. 

 

The association is also involved in identifying and documenting historical buildings and sites, including those over 80 years old. They are a member of the Heritage Association of South Africa and have a strong focus on documenting and preserving South African heritage for future generations.

The Heidelberg Heritage Association undertakes various activities, including:

  • Documenting and preserving historical buildings and sites:

    They are actively involved in identifying, documenting, and marking heritage sites with blue plaques. 

​​

  • Promoting heritage awareness:

    They aim to raise awareness about the importance of preserving Heidelberg's history through various initiatives, including publications and tours. 

​​

  • Facilitating collaboration:

    The association serves as a platform for different organizations and individuals interested in heritage to connect and collaborate. 

​​

  • Organizing events and tours:

    They host events like heritage tours to showcase the town's history and culture. 

​​

  • Publishing historical information:

    They have published books based on historical documents like the Heidelberg SAR News newspaper. 

​​

  • Partnering with other organizations:

    They collaborate with other heritage organizations like the Heritage Association of South Africa. 

​

The Association awards 'Blue Plaques' to recognize and commemorate significant historical sites and heritage buildings in Heidelberg. These plaques are part of a larger series, with plaque number 84 recently awarded to the Heidelberg Crown Hotel.

OLD JAIL VENUE HIRE, HEIDELBERG


The Old Jail at the top end of Ueckermann Street, Heidelberg, is available for your yearend function, at an affordable price. Birthdays, Kitchen Teas, Bachelor Parties, Weddings, Year End Functions, Annual General Meetings, etc.
